As a Fine Artist and Graphic Designer I understand thier importance in all fields and strive to educate my students in these areas. This site it dedicated to aiding students during and after their time in my class. Links to helpful resources, art terms, syllabi, assignments, calendars, and many other useful topics are on this site. Answers to basic student and parent questions can also be found here.
Each subject has its own page that can be accessed any time. These pages contain all the important information for that class such as due dates, project details, syllabus, homework, and calendar. There is also pages with resource information for the Visual Arts Content Standards, Art Terms for evaluations, and other information useful for all classes.
All of my classes shae the same underlying principles and structure. Creativity and design are the main focus and equally as important as the finished piece. I believe progression is a key part of keeping art interesting and relevant. Backgroud and history will be used as a foundation for each project in all classes. Students will learn about the artists that have influenced and mastered the style of art or project we are working on.
Education has always been something I enjoy. Be it teaching or learning I enjoy the classroom environment. At age 17 I became a swim instructor and taught swimming for four years while I worked on my degree. I graduated California State University, Northridge with degrees in Art and Communication Studies. After graduation i moved to England, Australia, and then back to Los Angeles focusing on gaining experience in the post-production field. At the same time I worked on my computer graphics skill and freelance landscape photography. I have traveld the world following my passion for photography and snowboarding. With my industry exprience I am now back to teaching, bringing the wealth of knowledge and experience I have gain to the classroom.
The students are the most important part of my job. I am available to discuss them at anytime. Detailed contact info can be viewed on the contact information page. The best and fastest methods of contacting me are listed below.
Introduction - Art is a subject that has been thought by many to be a fun side activity for students that is of no importance or real world usefulness. These beliefs are false, art is a necessary part of all subjects as much as it is a valuable required course. The classes I teach give students skills that they can use in their other classes and for the rest of their lives.
When people hear the world art they tend to think of drawing and painting because they are unaware of that are. Art is anything that is created or designed to look pleasing to the eye. This means that most things you see around you have been made to capture interest, which is also known as desing. No art can exist without design and in my classes you will learn about design and how it structures Fine Art or the newer form known as Graphic Arts.
Fine Arts -In these classes you will learn basic art techinques and use design principles to create works of art. This area stresses mastery of use in the varies art disciplines. Fine art includes a wide range of art medium such as pencil, graphite, charcoal, ink, paint, clay, wood, metal, and cound or recycled materials. Different mediums will be used in the each class. Students will learn about creating traditional, abstract, political, interprative, dynamic, and many other types of art made for different purposes. Oserving and discussing art of famous and unknown arist in another important part of Fine Art. It can dictate the popularity and price of a piece. Fine Art also has influence on the Graphic Arts. Those will also be explored in these courses.
Graphic Arts - This is a newer form of art that is also Media Arts. It has been given a seperate name beacuse this type of art uses things of a electronic nature. The same design principles are used, but graphic artuses electronice
mediums such as still and videos cameras, computer programs, printers, and audio recorders to create pieces.
Fine art style pieces are created in this area but its main focus is different. Graphic Arts is the design and creation of most thing we see and used daily. It is an area of art that Fine Artists use to make a steady pay check. Those interested in computers and video games can find careers doing what they enjoy. This art area has careers in fields such as Photography, Advertising, Packaging Design, Video Editing, Special Effects, Graphic Design, Computer Animation and Web Design.
The Graphic Arts area will introduce students to the skills and design elements necessary to create dynamic graphic arts pieces. Expressing Fine Arts inspired pieces using digital media will be the focus of the second semester of these classes. My main goal in these area is to exposing student the various possiblities and avenues in this emerging field.
